Stitching an Egyptological Adventure

Talk for the Wirral Ancient Egypt Society

I gave a talk yesterday for the Wirral Ancient Egypt Society, which meets in Meyer Hall in Bebington. Joseph Meyer was a local jeweller and philanthropist, and he built Meyer Hall as an art gallery and assembly rooms for the local community.

I managed to take some of the actual embroideries with me, so that the members could see in person what I had spoken of, even though the photographs came across very well on the screen.

As far as I could tell, all the attendees enjoyed themselves, and the questions they asked during the teas and coffees, and during the formal Q&A afterwards did suggest that they'd been engaged and interested. It's always a pleasure when someone asks a question you hadn't anticipated and have to think about!

The coaster you seen in the photograph was a commemorative gift for the speaker, which is lovely, and sitting ready beside me as I type!

A slate coaster, printed with an image of Nefertiti with the Aten above, arms stretched out in blessing, and beside it the symbol "WAES" in a triangle, and then "An Artist's View of Amarna - Rachel Mary Wright"
